What a "tracked user" costs on Canny, and how to estimate your bill before it grows

What Canny counts

Canny prices its paid plans by tracked users: anyone who has posted, voted or commented on your boards. The free plan covers 25 tracked users and 5 managers. Pro is listed "from $79/month, billed yearly" for 100+ tracked users, and the price rises as the count grows (canny.io/pricing).

The count doesn't shrink when feedback is closed. updown.io wrote in February 2026 that their free board had reached 943 tracked users over the years, and they were quoted $311/month ($249/month billed yearly) (updown.io/blog/goodbye-canny).

Estimate your own number

1. Count everyone who has ever voted, posted or commented on your board (Canny shows this in its admin area).
2. Add the people who will interact over the next 12 months. A widget inside your app usually brings far more voters than a link in the footer.
3. Compare that total with the tracked-user tiers on Canny's pricing page.

Ways to pay less

• Stay on the free plan while you are under 25 tracked users.
• Billed per seat instead of per voter: Featurebase charges per admin seat (from $29/seat/month, billed yearly; featurebase.app/pricing).
• Flat monthly price with unlimited voters: Upvoty from $15/month (upvoty.com/pricing), Nolt from $29/month for one board (nolt.io/pricing), FeedBear from $19/month for one admin and one board (feedbear.com/pricing), Frill from $25/month for up to 50 ideas (frill.co/pricing).
• Free tiers: Sleekplan, UserJot and Fider (cloud or open-source self-hosting) have free plans (sleekplan.com/pricing, userjot.com/pricing, fider.io/pricing).
• Self-host Fider if you are happy to run a server.

Before you switch

• Export your posts and votes first. Canny has a CSV export.
• Check whether voters can sign in through your app (SSO), so their votes keep their names.
• Check what the new tool charges for a custom domain and for removing its branding. That is where flat prices often differ.
